This year marks the 420th yahrtzeit of Luis Carvajal, el Mozo and family, burned at the stake in the largest auto da Fe in New Spain ( Mexico) in the 16th century. Luis, el Mozo, and family are the central figures in the founding of the rio grande culture, a unique blend of Sephardic tradition and Catholicism that distinguishes the region even today.
