Cancer Genetic Counselor
Annette Patterson is a cancer genetic counselor with a background in biochemistry research and a special interest in medical ethics. She received her undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Southern Methodist University, and her Master’s degree in Human Genetics from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. From 2000 to 2007 she worked in cancer genetics at UT Southwestern Medical Center, functioning in both clinical and research capacities. Since 2008 she has been a cancer genetic counselor at Medical City Dallas Hospital, and has also spent many years teaching Genetics and Ethics at Southern Methodist University, and Cancer Genetics at The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Her publications include an essay on disability in Genetics: Science, Ethics, and Public Policy, and papers in journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology and the American Journal of Human Genetics.
